Of Bjd Fashion: Valentine's Day Doll Fashion Show and a Mini Tutorial

First of all, I much apologize for the extensive silence. Anna has been somewhat under the weather these pass few months, and unfortunately it was necessary to postpone various planned events such as the winter fashion show, sewing tutorials, my new dress, etc.

Thankfully, Anna has recovered splendidly, and is working diligently to get caught up in such important duties.

So, without further delay, I am proud to present:

Our 1st Valentine's Day Doll Fashion Show

Hosted by Anna

Thank you Hikaru. This is our 2nd Fashion show (check here for our Fall Show). For this show, the theme is "Pink Heartache". Hearts are used throughout, and of course there's plenty of pink.

First up again, is Misako wearing a brand new pink dress along with her favorite white boots (from Alice's Collections, she won't take them off). The dress was made using the same method in my fitted bodice dress tutorial.

It features a slightly longer bodice with a shorter skirt, and gathered lace along the neckline.

Her pearl neckline pairs nicely with this cute dress.

It ties around the waist with a pink ribbon, a touch that shows off the lowered waistline.

Her hair is adorned with a cute heart hair clip, trimmed with lace and a single faux pearl. I made this and other heart accessories specifically for today. A nice touch for Valentine's Day.

Her high socks (here's the tutorial) look so cute with her shorter skirt.

And who should we find hiding at Misako's feet, but our next model. It's our little purple kitten. I made a dress for her to match Misako's.

It is a pinafore style dress inspired by vintage style baby dresses.

And for Valentine's Day flare, I made a cute stretchy heart headband.

And good news, I have been working on tutorial for this cute little dress. I am hoping to post it within the next few weeks.

(Wait a minute, the purple kitten is a girl? She was a baby girl all this time? Why didn't you inform me before?)
(Her sculpt, the Hujoo Nano Freya, can be either male or female. She just recently decided she wanted to be a little girl, so that's that.)

Speaking of cute cat girls, next is Tohru.

She is wearing one of Hikaru's favorite pink dresses (featured here) along with Hikaru's lace sandals (here's the tutorial). Unfortunately, it is a little big on her. Her waist is smaller than Hikaru's.

She is wearing a heart accessory too, this time a choker style necklace. It sort of looks like a heart cat collar.

Her hair is adorn with the matching rose headband.

Next is Yuki wearing a more casual Valentine's day look.

This sweater is my first attempt at a pullover sock sweater. I am working on the pattern still, and will post it when it's ready. The heart pattern makes it perfect for today.

The sweater pairs nicely with Yuki's jeans (here's a tutorial).

Yuki is carrying a felt heart, will he give it to a special someone?

Speaking of someone special, here's Shiro.

Shiro has a heart collar made exactly like Tohru's necklace. See, it really does work as a collar.

Shiro and Yuki are both looking so sweet today.

Speaking of sweet, here's Usagi looking sweet in a cute and casual outfit.

Usagi is wearing her blue felt coat (here's the tutorial) decorated with pink hearts.

It is layered over a eyelet lace halter top and skirt combo, recycled from an old dress (featured here). It pairs nicely with her high socks and signature pink sneakers.

A heart hair clip just like Misako's finishes this casual Valentine's Day look.

Now for the children.

First we have Momoko, wearing her favorite pink A-line dress (featured here).

It is worn with a heart brooch made along with the other accessories worn by the other dolls and her pearl necklace.

The dress pairs beautifully with this straw half-bonnet (here's the tutorial).

It adds a perfect touch to this vintage/antique inspired look for Valentine's Day.

Next is Sakura who's ready for some fun. Her pink halter dress is cut from the same piece as Usagi's set.

The breezy halter back and her lace sandals will help her stay cool while she's bouncing off the walls. A side effect of too much Valentine's Day candy.

She wears a heart brooch that matches Momoko's, pinned at her waist for a cute touch.

Now we have Yuna, wearing her pink felt coat worn over a floral dress she borrowed from Sakura (featured here), and a white bow headband (here's the tutorial).

She is trying a dance pose today, because she recently became interested in learning ballet.

Yuna is wearing a heart brooch too, pinned to her coat to complete her Valentine's Day look.

And in his Fashion Show debut, here's Makoto looking unbelievably adorable.

He is wearing Sakura's puffy suspender shorts (here's the tutorial) with his own button accented t-shirt (here's the tutorial). They look so cute on him (though we did have to reassure him that people can still tell he is a boy).

He is holding the biggest felt heart of all, is it for someone special?

"This is for you, Yuna. Will you be my Valentine?"
"Is that a chocolate heart!? I want one too! Do you have more? Let's have chocolate!"
"...Um, Sakura. I think you're embarrassing Makoto."
"It's not chocolate..."

Don't worry, the kids are getting chocolate after the show as a reward.

Anyway, for the finale, here's Hikaru.

Hikaru is wearing one of her first and fanciest dresses. This gorgeous pink and white dress (featured here) with a fake bustle and plenty of pink bows.

She is also wearing one of the heart brooches I made along with her pearl necklace.

The dress looks incredible paired with this half bonnet.

Such an elegant look to close this Fashion Show.

I do look incredible in this ensemble, and I really should wear half-bonnets more frequently.
However, I can't help but think that it would have been more satisfactory to end the show with my new dress. If only it had been finished in time.
Well then, good news! I actually did finish the dress this morning. The tutorial isn't ready yet, but that just needs a little more time.

Oh my gracious! Quick stall while I change into it.

Well, while Hikaru changes I will show how I made the heart accessories. Specifically the collar/necklace.

First, I cut my pieces.  A heart shape from pink felt, a piece of thin ribbon about 3 or 4 inches long, and a piece of lace about 3 or 4 inches long.

I sewed along the edge of the lace to gather it.

Then I joined the ends together to form a sort of upside down fan shape.

Then I attached the lace to the very center of the ribbon using a few stitches.

Then I attached the felt heart with a few stitches in the center.

I then added a faux pearl bead to the center of the heart before tying off my thread in back.

And now it is ready to tie on.

Looks cute from the back too.

And for the other pieces, I just skipped the ribbon, used larger sized hearts, and glued them to pinbacks and clips.

I am ready! Doesn't it look wonderful!
The dress is made from the same pattern as the Halloween witch dress from the last fashion show, just with a shorter skirt and no tulle.
The fitted bodice is embellished with lace borders and a ribbon bow.

The same lace is on the hem of the the full circle skirt.

There's a beautiful ribbon sash to tie in an elegant bow in back.

I am concerned that it doesn't seem to have as much volume as the witch costume.
That's because you forgot to put your petticoat on.
Oh dear! You're right!

There, that is much better. Now it is perfect.
What a glorious finale for this Fashion Show.

And now let's have a round of applause for our models in today's show. On behalf of everyone, thank you for watching.

Hikaru, do you have anything else to add.

To all my dear readers, have a very happy Valentine's Day with all your loved ones.

What is Misako Thinking?

What is Misako thinking?
"...hum, hum, everybody wants to be a cat. Because a cat is the only cat, who knows where it's at. Hum, how does the rest of the song go?"

Pleasant comments are always welcome and appreciated.

But please, no anti-doll comments. They are unnecessary and a bit rude. We understand that some people find dolls creepy or weird, but this is a "doll blog" that is intended for those who enjoy dolls. If you dislike dolls that much, don't waste your time reading doll blogs.
